DAY 1 INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF BUCHAREST – PITESTI/RAMNICU VALCEA (approx. 125/185 KM)

Welcome to Romania! Your guide will welcome at the Otopeni International Airport. Transfer to Pitesti / Ramnicu Valcea, to check-in and have dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2 PITESTI/RAMNICU VALCEA – HOREZU – COZIA – SIBIU (approx. 195 KM)

You start the day with a visit to the Monastery of Horezu, a real treasure of Romanian architecture which was built towards the end of the 17th century on the initiative of the rich Prince of Wallachia Constantin Brancoveanu. It is the only site in southern Romania classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The small town of Horezu is also known for local ceramics, a skill that is part of the intangible world heritage. You will then make a second stop, to visit the Cozia Monastery, a jewel of Romanian medieval art. Dating from 1386, the church of the monastery is among the oldest in Wallachia and it partly retains the original frescoes. Arrival in Sibiu after the picturesque road of the Olt Valley. Check-in for two nights and dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3 SIBIU – CISNADIOARA – SIBIEL – SIBIU (approx. 70 KM)

Your day will start with a visit to the historic center of Sibiu, one of the most beautiful cities in Romania. At the Grand Square, you will admire important medieval buildings such as the Haller House dating from the 15th century, the Catholic Church, the Council Tower and the Brukenthal Palace. After reaching the Little Square, you will walk on the Bridge of Lies. On the Huet Square, you will see the Protestant church. From there, you will discover the ramparts of the city which offer a pretty view of the towers and the medieval houses. Then you will go to the Museum of Popular and Traditional Civilizations of ASTRA. You will walk around this open-air museum which exhibits houses from all regions, traditional windmills and water mills. In the afternoon, you will take the road towards Cisnadioara, where you will visit the fortified church of the village. Located on the heights of a small hill, it is one of the first fortified churches in Romania. Admire the view of the Fagaras range, the mountains also known as the Transylvanian Alps. In the evening, you will be invited to dinner by the inhabitants of Sibiel. They will make you taste the traditional dishes of the region and offer you a tasting of their delicious wines and brandies. Return to Sibiu. Before dinner you will also feed your souls by visiting the largest museum of glass icons in Europe.

DAY 4 SIBIU – BIERTAN – SIGHISOARA (approx. 120 KM)

Go on to Biertan, where you will discover one of the best preserved medieval fortifications in Transylvania. Erected around 1500 on the foundations of a previous Roman building, the fortification with a Gothic church in the middle has three strong circular walls, two outer courtyards and several defensive towers. A bit later you will be in Sighisoara. Listed as a UNESCO World’s Heritage Site since 1999, Sighisoara is one of the few medieval fortresses in Europe that are still inhabited. In the old town you will stop at the Clock Tower, the Birthplace of Vlad the Impaler which inspired the character of Dracula and the Church on the Hill. Brandy tasting in a medieval cellar of the citadel. Check-in and dinner at the hotel.

DAY 5 SIGHISOARA – SASCHIZ – VISCRI – BRASOV (approx. 130 KM)

You will continue your journey with Saschiz, a magnificent village whose center is dominated by the fortified church founded in the 13th century. Due to its historical and architectural importance, the site is classified as a UNESCO World’s Heritage Site. Then you go to Viscri, the village where the Prince of Wales has a traditional Saxon house. Admire the landscape and its variety of oak and beech meadows and forests, visit the Old Saxon Church from the 13th century, walk along the peaceful streets and discover traditional houses. Optional lunch with the locals (+$). Transfer to Brasov, check-in and dinner at the hotel.

DAY 6 BRASOV – ZARNESTI – BRAN – BRASOV (approx. 90 KM)

Romania is home to over 6000 brown bears. It is the largest bear population in Europe. To learn more about these mammals, you will visit the Zarnesti Sanctuary. Founded in 2005, it is the first nature reserve dedicated to bears in Romania. Occupying an area of 69 hectares, it houses more than 70 animals. Later you will discover the Dracula’s Castle. Hidden in the hilly forest of Bran and surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend, the castle was built by the German Saxons in the 14th century and served as a customs checkpoint between Transylvania and Wallachia for many centuries. In 1920 the castle became a royal residence, offered as a gift from the inhabitants of Brasov to Queen Marie of Romania. Known today around the world for being the place where Bram Stoker placed the residence of Count Dracula, his imaginary creation, the castle is the most visited place in Romania. Return to Brasov, in the heart of Transylvania. The walking tour of Brasov begins in Council Square, laid out by the Saxons who called it Markplatz. One of the city’s main attractions is the Black Church, the most important Gothic church in Romania, and the largest between Vienna and Istanbul, which took its name after the Great Fire of 1689. During your tour you will you will also see one of the narrowest streets in Europe, the Rope Street. Dinner in a local restaurant.

DAY 7 BRASOV – SINAIA – BUCAREST (approx. 185 KM)

Before the capital of Bucharest, you will make a last stop in Sinaia, “the Pearl of the Carpathians”. You will visit the Peles Castle, the former summer residence of the royal family. The castle was built at the end of the 19th century, in the style of the German Renaissance. It is now included in all the tops of the most beautiful castles in Europe. Not far away, you will visit the Sinaia Monastery. Built in the 17th century, more than 20 monks still live there. In the afternoon you take a sightseeing tour of the capital which includes: the House of the Free Press, the Triumphal Arch, the Boulevard Kiseleff, the Victory Square - with the Romanian Government, the Roman Square, the Romanian Athenaeum, the University Square, the Union Square.

DAY 8 BUCHAREST – INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OF BUCHAREST (approx. 25 KM)

In the morning, you will visit one of the largest buildings in the world, the Palace of Parliament. The construction of this vast monument lasted nearly 5 years and required the work of 400 architects and 20,000 workers. Transfer to the airport. Have a nice trip back home!
