The Azores islands are a Portuguese archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean, located about 1 450 km (900 mi) from Lisbon. Nowadays, Azores’ main industries are tourism, cattle raising for milk and meat, and fishing. The Azores are actually the summits of some of the highest mountains on the planet, whose base is hundreds of meters below the ocean. The archipelago forms the Autonomous Region of Azores, one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal, along with the archipelago of Madeira.

DAY 1 ARRIVAL IN SÃO MIGUEL – PONTA DELGADA

Transfer from the airport to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore the capital city of the island.

DAY 2 HALF DAY TOUR TO SETE CIDADES

Today, departure for a half day tour to Sete Cidades Lakes by the mountain road, where you get a very nice view of the flat part of the island. Stop at the “Vista do Rei” Belvedere and stop at the village of Sete Cidades. On the way back to Ponta Delgada, you will visit the pineapple plantations. The afternoon is at leisure.

DAY 3 FLIGHT TO FLORES – SANTA CRUZ

Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your flight to island of Flores. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to discover your surroundings.

DAY 4 FULL DAY TOUR OF FLORES ISLAND

Departure from Santa Cruz for a full day tour of Flores, including a stop at Ribeira da Cruz Belvedere and a visit several lakes, Lomba, Funda, and Rasa. During the trip from Fajãzinha to Ponta da Fajã Grande, there are many beautiful waterfalls. Visit to “Rocha dos Bordões”, a lava solidification that created a very high vertical fluting. On the return to Santa Cruz, stop at the Caveira Belvedere.

Optional Excursions :
(+$): During your lake visits, walk to Poço da Alagoinha, where you will encounter a small lake and see the waterfalls from close by (800m walk from the road, around 45 minutes return, walking boots are needed).

DAY 5 FLIGHT TO FAIAL – HORTA

Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your flight to the island of Faial. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore your surroundings.

DAY 6 FULL DAY TOUR OF FAIAL ISLAND

After breakfast, departure from Horta for a full day tour of this island of Faial. It begins heading to the village of Flamengos to visit the Botanical Garden. Next, the tour heads up to the Natural Reserve of the Caldeira of Faial, surrounded by the blue hydrangeas. Next, head towards Ribeira das Cabras viewpoint, along Serra of Feteira. Stop for lunch and then begin the descent to the Fajã in Praia do Norte. Visit the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre and learn about the eruption of the volcano from 1957 – 1958. On the way back to Horta, you will have a quick stop at Varadouro to admire the Morro of Castelo Branco, and end the day in Monte da Guia in Horta, to admire one of the best views of the city and the Bay of Porto Pim.

DAY 7 FULL DAY TOUR OF PICO ISLAND

In the morning, transfer to the harbour to take the ferry to Pico Island (30 minutes). The full day tour of Pico begins with your departure from Madalena along the north coast in the direction of Cachorro and Lajido. Continue to São Roque to visit the Whale Factory and the natural swimming pools. Continue by the mountain road towards the lake of Capitão, at 900m. Then head to Lajes to visit the Whalers’ Museum before stopping for lunch. Continue along the south coast, and make a short stop at Mistérios de São João, then continue to São Mateus to visit the church. Afterwards, continue in the direction of Criação Velha, where Pico’s vineyards have been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. Return to Madalena for the return ferry back to the island of Faial. Transfer from the harbor to the hotel.

DAY 8 HORTA AT LEISURE

Free day to visit the town. Take the opportunity to explore the Marina, the Espalamaca Lookout or Horta Museum, housing several collections related to Faial history and art pieces by Portuguese artists.

DAY 9 FLIGHT TO TERCEIRA – ANGRA DO HEROÍSMO

Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your flight to Terceira. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure to discover the town.

DAY 10 FULL DAY TOUR OF TERCEIRA ISLAND

After breakfast, begin your full day tour of Terceira. On this tour you will visit the best of the island with amazing landscapes, the center of the island, Biscoitos Vineyards and Natural swimming pools, Raminho, Serreta, Gruta do Natal, and Serra do Cume viewpoint. Discover the history and culture of Terceira, connect with nature, and enjoy a traditional lunch at a small local restaurant (typical Alcatra lunch). This is a slow paced full day tour and a very special experience. Return to the hotel after the tour.

DAY 11 ANGRA DO HEROÍSMO AT LEISURE

Free day to visit the town. We suggest a visit to Angra Marina; An historic port since the 15th century, it is an almost mandatory stopover in the Atlantic. The entrance of the marina provides an extraordinary panoramic view of the city of Angra do Heroísmo.

DAY 12 FLIGHT TO SÃO MIGUEL – PONTA DELGADA

Transfer to the airport from the hotel for your flight to São Miguel Island. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy.

DAY 13 PONTA DELGADA AT LEISURE

Free day to visit the town. Ponta Delgada is a cosmopolitan city, outward looking, with a lively economic and cultural life. The extensive coastline road, which borders the harbour and the sea outlining the city, is the expression of its dynamism, adapting to new times and also the access road to the city. Boasting a history of over five centuries and precious testimonies of the past, Ponta Delgada is a multifaceted city where tradition lives hand-in-hand with the present and cosmopolitanism with wholesome tranquility of the Azorean life.

DAY 14 FULL DAY TOUR OF FURNAS

Departure from Ponta Delgada for a full day tour of Furnas by the south road. Stop at the village of Vila Franca do Campo. Arrival in Furnas valley, passing by the lake. Visit to the botanical garden (with time for a swim in the thermal natural hot water swimming pool) and the hot springs. Your lunch of traditional “cozido”, a traditional Portuguese stew that is cooked in a unique way using geothermal heat (hot springs) is included. Return to Ponta Delgada by the north coast, visiting a tea plantation and Santa Iria viewpoint.
